Flowchart - workers safety

Ensuring workers safety – Flowchart

Ensuring workers safety while working at height, that seems obvious.

But where do we start and how do we proceed?

Follow the guide!

  1. Removing the risk
Modifying equipment or work to eliminate working at height: work from the ground
  2. Assessing unavoidable risks
Conducting an inventory and analysis of risks and their dangerousness (falls, slips, etc.)
  3. Fighting risks at the source
The closer the fall prevention devices are installed to the source of the risk, the more the risk is reduced
  4. Giving priority to collective protection
Providing permanent facilities for access to and circulation in the work area: stairs, walkways, platforms, guardrails, etc.
  5. Using personal protective equipment
Harnesses and anchor points, fall arrest systems or access restriction systems
  6. Providing users with appropriate instructions, training and equipment
Providing training and safety instructions for the proper use of equipment and facilities
  7. Taking into account the evolution of technology
    Ensuring compliance of security solutions

Jacket Lift System safety project

Heading for Italy today! We take you along with our installation partners In-Safety and Anticaduta Srl, on the Jacket Lift System (J.L.S.) safety project for the company Pioneering Spirit.
This gigantic lifting structure for construction ships, located at the stern, is composed of 2 beams, each 175 metres long, inside which two ladders of over 100 metres are installed.
A complex project perfectly carried out on site by our installation partners!

What you need to know

  • Context: securing the Jacket Lift System (J.L.S.) stern lift project of the company Pioneering Spirit, intended for construction ships
  • Structures to be secured: two ladders, each over 100 metres long
  • Environment: the ladders are located inside two 175m long beams.
During the installation of the fall arrest system, these two beams remain horizontally down, leaving the ladders between 2 and 8 metres above the ground depending on the location.
The confined and cramped working environment, making it impossible to use a scaffold.
  • Fall protection system installed: 200 meters of 20 micron anodized fall protection rail with RCBC bidirectional locking carriages
  • Installation partners: IN-SAFETY® and Anticaduta srl.

J.L.S.: what does it mean?

The Jacket Lift System (J.L.S.) is the new stern lift system for Allseas’ Pioneering Spirit construction vessels.
The system consists of two huge S690 steel beams, each 175m long and weighing 6500 tonnes.
Equipped with electrical, hydraulic, instrumentation and water ballast tank management systems, they were designed and manufactured by CIMOLAI, a company specialising in the supply and assembly of complex steel structures.

A huge confined space with variable geometry and difficult access

When the JLS system is in operation, the two beams rotate and move from a horizontal to a vertical position.
In the horizontal position, personnel can move around inside using walkways secured by guardrails. In the vertical position, however, a ladder must be used.
The walkways and ladders are almost parallel to each other, and are spaced at a height of between 2 and 8 metres depending on the location.

ALTIRAIL and ALTIRAIL LR

Securing painting rooms with our ALTIRAIL & ALTIRAIL LR solutions!

Securingpainting rooms with our ALTIRAIL & ALTIRAIL LR solutions!

Today, let’s go to Eastern Europe with this beautiful project of securing painting rooms for tramways and trains!

CONTEXT & SITE PARTICULARITIES

Our teams were called in for a project to secure painting rooms for a company working on trains and trams in the Czech Republic.

6 cabins in total ranging from 13m to 30m in length.

The painting work on trains and trams requires fluidity of movement in all directions, so our teams first considered our ALTIRAIL rail lifeline solution, which can be installed overhead (fixed to the ceiling).

However, the structure of the cabins includes a significant ventilation system above the work area, so the ALTIRAIL could not be installed there.

TAILOR-MADE SOLUTION

We therefore designed a tailor-made solution to overcome all the constraints and meet all the needs of our customer.

By combining the efficient and safe overhead position of our ALTIRAIL rail lifeline and the long span of our ALTIRAIL LR rail lifeline, we were able to create a solution that perfectly met our customer’s needs:

Adaptation to the existing structure

Two ALTIRAIL were installed on each side of the painting rooms to ensure that it could be securely fixed without damaging the ventilation.

Smooth traffic

The ALTIRAIL LR long range rail was fixed to mobile runners which were themselves installed on each of the ALTIRAIL lengths.

Thus, the circulation from left to right is ensured by the ALTIRAIL LR and the circulation from front to back is ensured by the installation of the ALTIRAIL LR on two lengths of ALTIRAIL.

User safety

In addition to the smooth flow of traffic, this solution provides complete coverage of the work area, ensuring the safety of the user throughout his work.

Before implementing this solution, our teams created a prototype in our own workshop in order to ensure the safety of this solution as well as the degree of fluidity of movement that it allowed.

SOME FIGURES ON THIS PROJECT

A total of 6 cabins were secured:

  • 1 cabin of 30 meters long
  • 1 cabin of 17 meters long
  • 1 cabin of 15 metres long
  • 3 cabins of 13 meters long

202 meters of ALTIRAIL rail lifeline were installed as well as 72 metres of ALTIRAIL LR long range rail lifeline.

Do not hesitate to contact our teams to study your specific needs!

To see by yourself the benefits of this solution, here is a short video of use!
